Laparoscopic Surgery:
Certain situations will inevitably require surgery. Dr Henk Burger always strives to treat conditions with non-surgical therapies however once these options are exhausted the next logical step is surgery. Fortunately laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that allows for the treatment and diagnosis of a range of gynaecological conditions. Laparoscopy involves surgery performed in a small abdominal incision. The recovery after this procedure is much quicker than a major surgery and the complications are minimal.
Hysteroscopy:
This minimally invasive procedure is used to diagnose and treat various conditions and is favoured by Dr Henk Burger over more extensive surgeries that may lead to longer recovery time, more pain and a greater risk of infection. The procedure is performed by the insertion of a thin hysteroscope which then allows for a visual examination of the uterus and cervix. If, during this examination, an abnormality is detected an operative hysteroscopy can often be performed to correct the condition, thus avoiding the patient having to undergo a second major surgery.
